HOT OFF THE PRESS: Following this summer's workshop, Barbara and Connie will publish a small book showcasing 2013 and 2014 workshop participants' artwork. The text will include quotes from participants' art journals, Greek poetry, and information about Neapolis and the surrounding area. The book will be printed in full-color and will be available from http://www.amazon.com/ as a soft-cover book or e-book.
Daily Itinerary:
Sunday, June 29
Taxis will pick participants up from their hotels in Athens for the five-hour scenic drive to Neapolis, at the southern tip of the Peloponnese. Participants will check in to the Limara Mare Hotel in the early afternoon. The Limira Mare is located on the waterfront (
www.limiramare.gr) and participants will have time to relax, swim or walk along the beachfront. We will gather at 6 p.m. in the garden of the Limira Mare for a workshop overview with Sondra and an introduction to journal writing with Connie. Dinner following in the garden restaurant of the Limira Mare Hotel.

Monday, June 30

9 a.m. From the Limira Mare, we will take a walking tour of the old town of Neapolis, ending at the pier on the boardwalk for an art class. Lunch is on your own. There are a number of waterfront tavernas to choose from. Free time in the afternoon to sketch, swim or rest. At 7 p.m., we will walk to Mone Mone, a beachfront mezzodopolio, for a wine tasting of local varietals. This will be followed by a dinner of mezze - small plates like Spanish tapas.

Tuesday, July 1
9 a.m. We will meet at the city dock and embark on Bobby’s traditional wooden caique (boat) for a trip to Elafonisos Island. We will stop at the harbour and sketch the small fishing boats moored there. After the sketching class, Bobby will take us to the white sand beach at Pounta for swimming and snorkeling over the archeological site of Pavlo Petri, the oldest underwater city in the world. Bobby will take us back to Neapolis in the late afternoon. The evening is free and dinner is on your own.

Wednesday, July 2
9 a.m. Taxis will take us to visit the church and fresh water spring in Faraklo, where we will have a sketching and painting class. Faraklo is in close proximity to the spectacular three-million year old cave, where we will take a guided tour. Lunch will be at a taverna in the nearby town of Kalenia. Evening free, dinner on your own.

Thursday, July 3
8 a.m. Wander through and shop at the local outdoor market. 9am: Departure from the pier in Neapolis for an excursion to the Petrified Forest by boat. Our painting session will take place on board, followed by a swim. We will return to Neapolis by 1pm. Lunch on your own. Afternoon free. 8pm: Departure for Pasaki and barbeque grill dinner at the home of Sylvia and Taso Gavrilis.

Friday, July 4
9 a.m. Taxis will pick us up at the Limira Mare for the 40-minute drive to Monemvasia. Sketching class will be in the old city. Lunch is on your own (plenty of tavernas to choose from!) We will return to Neapolis in the late afternoon. At 8 p.m., we will walk to the Mistral Restaurant on the Neapolis boardwalk for dinner,  

Saturday, July 5
9 a.m. Sketching at the well-populated boardwalk of Neapolis. Lunch on your own. At 8 p.m., taxis will take us from the Limira Mare to the Neraida Taverna in Aghios Nikolaos for an evening of wonderful food and live Greek folk music. 

Sunday, July 6
10 a.m. After breakfast at the Limira Mare, we will view and review everyone’s art journals. Noontime taxi departure for Athens.

Workshop Includes:

Double accommodations at Limira Mare Hotel, located on the waterfront in Neapolis, with excellent buffet breakfasts each morning in the hotel's garden. (Single room supplement $230)
Lunches on Tuesday and Wednesday
Dinners on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Taxi/shuttle transportation from Athens to Neapolis round trip
Transportation for daily trips to Elafonisos Island, Pasaki, Faraklo, Kastania, Petrified Forest, Monemasia and Aghios Nikolaos

Workshop Cost:

$2395 U.S. (1775 Euros, 1495 British Pounds)
A deposit of $750 U.S. must be paid at the time of registration to hold your reservation. $375 is non-refundable. A balance of $1645 must be paid in full six weeks prior to the start of the workshop, no later than May 31, 2014. Transportation to and from Greece and any additional expenses are the participant's responsibility.
